The Great Homeschool HISTORY TOUR
The Histerical Sisters are home educating mothers AND sisters, Jennifer Steward
and Gina Threshie. These two history nuts have teamed up to bring history to life
for those who think history is about memorizing a bunch of boring facts! They are
able to engage the interest of students of ALL ages teaching "the facts" through
humor.
The Histerical Sisters (known to their students as Tito and Nee Nee) teach two local
monthly history classes to over 150 students.
They are known to occasionally travel to put on History Days, presentations, or
camps (contact us if interested at:
thehistericalsisters@hotmail.com)
"But wait...we’ve created a way for you to put on your own History Day or History
Tour wherever you live!"
The Great Homeschool History Tour is a monthly history class / co-op that you can
put on in your own area. We’ve done all the work for you - our program details everything
you’ll need to "do it yourself!" We tell you exactly what to do, give you all the
info you need, teaching materials, activity stations, detailed plans, reproducible
sheets, supplies you’ll need, recipes for period lunches, ideas for costumes and
more!
Here’s a sneak peek into what it’s all about: our program includes ...
History Day Schedule -
For larger groups, find a facility (church?) to meet, gather students into the sanctuary
and show the one hour DVD. Students break up into classes: K-3rd, 4th - 6th and
7th and up. The first two groups rotate to activity stations while the upper graders
participate in an educational challenge of their own. A third station is The Photo
shoot where students get their photo taken in front of a "period" backdrop. Stations
finish in time for students to line up for a period lunch.
After lunch / clean-up, students gather at tables to fill out their scrapbook page.
History Day ends with a "wrap up" time in the sanctuary where upper graders present
something from their class and all students get a chance to come forward and tell
a fact they learned in exchange for a piece of candy! Moms will "co-operate" by
bringing supplies and helping out wherever needed!
Students who sign up for The Great Homeschool History Tour return month after month
and actually "tour" through history with NeeNee & Tito! They fill out a scrapbook
page where they post their photo (dressed for the times!) and collect these in a
History Tour Notebook. At the end of the year students have a beautiful portfolio
showing all their "stops" in history!
Whether you are putting on a group class / co-op, a small in home class, or just

California History - our one hour presentation DVD teaches every standard required
in the 4th grade curriculum. Be sure to include our DVD as part of your California
History curriculum! From the first Inhabitants (the Indians) to the Prospectors
of the Gold Rush, Tito engages eager learners using hats! Hats? That’s right, Tito
creates a great visual that helps lock each time period of California’s rich history
into students minds.
Our full program includes a map / geography activity, early Spanish names of cities,
and first person interpretation from some of California’s early people! Upper grade
students "cartoon" lyrics to a gold rush song and present their work to the group.
